On 6 January, FDP kicked off the new year at the traditional Three Kings meeting in Stuttgart, Germany, ahead of the country’s upcoming federal election on 23 February.
FDP political leaders delivered keynote speeches highlighting an urgent need for action through reforms to address the population’s growing fears about job security, cost of living, global warming and foreign interference.
Party leader Christian Lindner focused on the liberal pathway to ensure Germany’s economic turnaround after two years of stagnation.
“Our state has become dysfunctional because it has become too big. We commit to controlling global warming to within 1.5 degrees, but we are failing to deliver a new ID card on time,” said Lindner.
“If we want to change something in terms of mentality and politics to become a Germany of freedom again, then we should start by speaking openly and freely about what we want to achieve together. The election on 23 February is about the future of our country, about the character of our democracy. It is about everything - and that is why for us it is more important than ever now. The Free Democrats were, remain and always will be the only voice of freedom in Germany.”
FDP has started its campaign for the federal election through its regional state associations, with many branches officially electing their lead candidates which will head their state lists.
On 9 February, the party will hold an Extraordinary Congress in Potsdam, Germany, ahead of the federal election.
