Former ALDE Party Co-President among new Irish Ministers of State

On 29 January, Ireland’s government led by Taoiseach Micheál Martin TD announced the 23 Ministers of State (junior ministers) taking office in the new government. 

Timmy Dooley TD, former ALDE Party co-President between 2021-24, is one of ten Fianna Fáil members taking up a junior ministerial role, including super junior minister Mary Butler TD who also serves as Government Chief Whip. 

A Minister of State is a non-cabinet rank attached to one or more Departments of State of the Government and assists the Minister of the Government responsible for that Department. 

The list of Fianna Fáil Ministers of State is: 

  • Thomas Byrne TD – Minister of State for European Affairs and Defence 
  • Michael Moynihan TD – Minister of State for Special Education and Inclusion 
  • Charlie McConalogue TD – Minister of State for Sport and Postal Policy 
  • Jennifer Murnane O’Connor TD – Minister of State for Public Health, Wellbeing and the National Drugs Strategy 
  • Christopher O’Sullivan TD – Minister of State for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity 
  • Robert Troy TD – Minister of State for Financial Services, Credit Unions and Insurance 
  • Niall Collins TD – Minister of State for International Law, Law Reform and Youth Justice 
  • Niamh Smyth TD – Minister of State for Trade Promotion, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation 
  • Timmy Dooley TD – Minister of State for Fisheries and the Marine 
“I want to wish all the Ministers of State every success in their new roles in helping Government deliver on our commitments, responding to challenges, and moving Ireland forward in the years ahead. This will be a Government determined to deliver on the economy, housing, disability, infrastructure, and public services, as well as maintaining Ireland’s strong voice on the world stage,” said Taoiseach Martin. 

Martin was officially appointed as Taoiseach on 23 January with Fianna Fáil retaining eight senior ministerial roles out of 15 as the senior partner in the new coalition government.
