ALDE Party member Liberalerna in Sweden adopted the party’s new vision for 2035, committing to build a country where shared values, security, knowledge and opportunity empower every citizen to shape their own future.
At the party's national convention in Karlstad on 22-23 March, over 500 members approved the document called “A Sweden to believe in”, updating the party’s remit to respond to current and future challenges.
“In 2035, every person - regardless of their background – will have more opportunities to build their own future through a well-functioning education system, an economy where it pays much better to work and take responsibility, and health and social care that is available when and where it is needed,” said the document.
The document is the result of months of consultations with party members and local branches across the country. The vision will now be subject to amendments from members, and is to be debated and adopted at a party Congress in November.
Liberalerna members also advanced a proposal to ban foreign ownership of schools and phase out private providers of care homes due to a high influence of organised crime.
Party leader Johan Pehrson, Sweden’s Minister of Education, delivered a keynote speech detailing the goals of the party’s new mission statement.
“Our vision for Sweden is a new community of values. A social contract between free people who take responsibility, care and are more involved in the common good. With really good schools that equip students for the future. With a climate policy that goes hand in hand with families and businesses. With a stronger total defence that increases security in Sweden and the Baltic Sea. And an even stronger Europe that stands up for peace, freedom and free trade,” said Pehrson.
