On 24 March, a new coalition government took office in Estonia led by ALDE Party member Eesti Reformierakond with Eesti 200 as junior partner.

Estonia’s Prime Minister and Reformierakond party leader Kristen Michal led cross-party negotiations on a new coalition agreement, with a stronger focus on boosting the economy and reducing bureaucracy.

As part of a ministerial reshuffle, Reformierakond now hold seven out of 12 positions in the Cabinet, with three party members newly appointed as Ministers.

Andres Sutt, who already served as Minister of Entrepreneurship and Information Technology between 2021-22, is the new Minister of Energy and Environment.

Current Member of the Riigikogu and doctor Karmen Joller has been appointed as Minister of Social Affairs, notably in charge of health.

Finally, entrepreneur Kuldar Leis has taken up the role of Minister of Infrastructure.

The new government aims to build Estonia’s defence capability, develop competitive and innovation-based economy and make state administration more modern, efficient and business-friendly.

“The coalition's basic agreement sets out the main principles of government - national defence and security, taxation and economic competitiveness, ease of doing business, and the future process for drafting policy documents in the areas,” said Michal.
