Renew Europe MEPs outlined 50 concrete measures to make life easier for people and businesses across the EU.

The Group took the lead in the urgent need to simplify EU legislation by establishing a task force of MEPs from 16 European Parliament Committees to put forward legislative proposals.

As a first step, MEPs outlined 15 guiding principles and forwarded them to the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen on 12 March.

The European Commission has already introduced several “omnibus” packages to streamline legislation, particularly in the field of sustainability.

However, Renew Europe stressed that simplification is a broader concept that involves rationalising rules, eliminating overlaps and making compliance easier without necessarily leading to deregulation.

“These proposals include alleviating reporting obligations for farmers, creating a single digital platform for the maritime sector, consolidating EU corporate rules into a single rulebook, eliminating overlaps in tech regulation, and simplifying access to EU funds,” said Morten Løkkegaard MEP, Renew Europe Vice-President and leader of the initiative.

The task force will now enter the next phase by engaging with stakeholders to stress test these ideas and refine the proposals further.
