Trump's attack on Ukraine - we can't look away

Donald Trump’s reckless decision to suspend military aid to Ukraine and the unpredictable, back and forth course of the US doesn't just undermine Kyiv – it emboldens Putin and threatens global security. All at a time when Ukraine is fighting for survival and democracy itself.

It’s easy to lose hope in moments like this, but we are not powerless. Our voices matter. Ukraine needs us, as Europeans, to speak up, act and stand firm.

As liberals, we’re pushing for stronger, long-term military support for Ukraine, tougher sanctions on Russia and a just and lasting peace that guarantees Ukraine’s sovereignty and security. Liberal leaders like Kaja Kallas are pioneering the biggest European defence initiative since World War II at today's European leaders’ summit.

We believe Europe can meet this moment. That’s why our upcoming ALDE Party Council in Helsinki (27-28 June) will focus on security and defence – because the stakes couldn’t be higher. And you can make a difference too.
