On 24 February, liberal leaders and parties joined a united call to support Ukraine on its path to victory three years after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
The brave people of Ukraine stand resolute in their fight for freedom and the core principles of international law. However, they now see the prospect of a “peace” deal being imposed on them without their say.
European liberals were standing with the Ukrainian people in 2022, through words and action, and we will until victory. We will not accept any peace deal without Ukraine's involvement and real security guarantees.
Liberals governing in countries such as the Netherlands, Estonia, Belgium and Ireland have continued to provide military support to ensure Ukraine can defend itself, while our Members of the European Parliament have constantly been pushing to unblock more EU funds to counter the invasion, including the release of frozen Russian assets.
Through various resolutions, including at the last Congress meeting in October, ALDE Party and our members have committed to take all possible steps to ensure Ukraine wins Putin’s war of aggression and is able to reconstruct the devastation inflicted by Russia with the latter’s own money.
In a visit to Kyiv, EU leaders announced a new support package to Ukraine to secure its energy system and enable its full integration within the European energy market by 2027.
