On 4 March, leading liberal women in politics came together in Brussels for an inspiring evening dedicated to the realities of being a woman at the summit of power.

The event highlighted the invaluable lessons that women and men can draw from the book “Confronting the 10 Traps of Power”, a survival guide for political leaders written by The Alliance Of Her core trainer Katrien Van den broeck

In an opening keynote speech, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos highlighted the persistence of antiquated female role models in contemporary Western society.

"We are still living in the times of repeating patriarchal tendencies. But the world needs more women in politics and needs them now: we must demand, create and trust ourselves. When women lead, nations grow, societies thrive and we might make miracles. We bring people together and lead with integrity,” said Commissioner Kos.

The evening continued with a panel discussion around women in power featuring The Alliance Of Her alumnae as key speakers, including Sweden’s Minister for Climate and Environment Romina Pourmokhtari (Liberalerna, SE) and former MEP Anna Donáth (Momentum Mozgalom, HU) with women leaders from the business world.

"Those who I meant to empower with this book now feel less welcome in politics. Why do dictators always try to crush women? Because women are a force of nature, we refuse to stop. Don’t be afraid, but start speaking up, start resisting: we are the resistance,” concluded Van den broeck in her remarks.

Featuring interviews with women in power, such as former European Commission Vice-President Margrethe Vestager, “Confronting the 10 traps of power” provides female politicians with practical advice on how to avoid common pitfalls for women (and men) in leadership roles.
