Renew Europe CoR elects leadership for new mandate

On 19 February, Renew Europe in the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) elected its new Group Presidency, Bureau and Commission Coordinators ahead of the first CoR plenary session of the 2025-2030 mandate.

François Decoster, Mayor of Saint-Omer and Vice-President of the Hauts de France region in France, was confirmed as group President.

Meanwhile, the following members were elected to the presidency:

  • First Vice-President – Karīna Miķelsone (Mayor of Adazi, LV)
  • Second Vice-President: Willy Borsus (President of the Parliament of Wallonia, BE)
  • Third Vice-President: Mirja Vehkaperä (Mayor of Oulu, FI)

Meanwhile, the following members were elected to the Group Bureau:

  • Ivan Gulam (Mayor of Pirovac, HR)
  • Gillian Coughlan (Cork County Councillor, IE)
  • Arthur Van Dijk (King’s Commissioner of North Holland, NL)
  • Magali Altounian (Deputy Mayor of Nice, FR)
  • Luciano Caveri (Regional Minister of the Vallée d’Aosta Region, IT)

The new Bureau will strengthen the commitment to advancing security, democracy, and prosperity across Europe. Their role will be crucial in ensuring that cities and regions build an even stronger presence in EU policy-making.

The meeting was attended by European Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law, and Consumer Protection Michael McGrath.
