On 1 December, Romania held parliamentary elections to elect all 136 seats in the Senate and 330 seats in the Chamber of Deputies.

ALDE Party member USR, led by Elena Lasconi, obtained 19 seats in the Senate and 40 in the Chamber of Deputies, with a popular vote share of 12.26%.

In her first remarks following the decision, Lasconi called for a pro-European coalition government to bolster Romania’s common security and prosperity as a strong part of the EU.

"We need statespeople who will take Romania's pro-European and pro-NATO democratic path. This is a critical moment for Romania: together, we can strengthen democracy, resist external threats, and secure our place in Europe,” said Lasconi.

As part of their election campaign, USR pledged to lower taxes for workers, getting rid of special pensions, confiscating assets to individuals convicted for corruption, eliminating useless state agencies and making the appointment of convicted criminals to public office a constitutional crime.

“These are the USR proposals you have supported with your vote. They are just part of the changes we are proposing to make Romania a fairer, more prosperous, fairer country. Thank you!” said ALDE Party and Renew Europe Vice-President Dan Barna MEP
